Self Drive Auckland

Guide to some of the attractions available on a self drive tour of Auckland

If you are planning an Auckland fly drive holiday, there is plenty to keep you occupied during your stay, and within driving distance of the city you can see many of New Zealand's highlights.

Amongst the attractions available within driving distance of Auckland itself, the Bay of Islands is a spectacular region providing some of North Island's most dramatic coastal scenery and innumerable quiet bays and small villages. It is possible to spend several days in the region and in summer Lang's Beach in particular is idyllic.

Ninety Mile Beach offers you the chance to relax and enjoy the laid back pace of life along one of New Zealand's best shorelines. The sheer size of the beach, coupled with the low population of the area means that it is easy to find your own slice of paradise and hide out away from the rest of the world for a few days. If you rent a motor home in Auckland, it is possible to tour the area extensively and enjoy some genuine peace and quiet.

If you want to experience the majesty of New Zealand's volcanic heart, make the drive from Auckland to Rotorua and spend a few days exploring the national park there. Mixing aspects of traditional Maori culture with the geysers, volcanoes and mud springs; Rotorua's shattered landscape is a beautiful reminder of the power that nature wields.
