Auckland Attractions Guide
Information about the top attractions to see in Auckland during your stay
As the most popular destination for tourists visiting New Zealand, Auckland has plenty to offer during your stay. No matter what your attractions, whether you want to immerse yourself in culture, or get back to nature, enjoy white knuckle thrills or relax and unwind, there is something in Auckland that will be ideal for you.
Amongst the most visited attractions in Auckland is the famous SkyTower. The tallest building in the southern hemisphere, at 328 metres tall, it is higher than either the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and the Burj Al Arab luxury hotel in Dubai. Part of a large casino complex called SKYCITY, the tower is just one of many different attractions including restaurants, an amusement centre, and an observation deck. The Auckland SkyTower attracts around 600,000 visitors each year, although not all of them try out the SkyJump - a 192 metre "controlled fall" similar to a bungee jump from the upper storeys of the tower.
Other notable attractions in Auckland include Auckland Museum, a comprehensive museum of New Zealand's unique history, which also features regular exhibitions from around the world. The museum is housed in one of the city's most historic buildings overlooking Waitemata Harbour, and is open throughout the year.
Fans of nature will enjoy the 3 main zoological attractions in Auckland. the Tropical Butterfly House close to the airport is the largest of its kind in Australia and features many beautiful creatures. Auckland Zoo is a popular day out for families, and has a large collection of endangered species and a few crowd pleasers too. If you fancy getting out of the city, why not take a trip on a boat to cruise through the Bay of Islands in search of wild dolphins and some of the species of whales that pass through during the year - as well as enjoying the spectacular scenery.
Other things to seek out in Auckland include the famous Nikau Glow Worm Caves, the best beaches at Mission Bay, the Howick Historical Village, the famous Kelly Tarlton's Antarctic Encounter and Underwater World, and many more great attractions to suit all tastes.
